Schluter certified
Louis Chirco has completed the full Schluter training, and he's on the job doing the work himself. The membrane, the drain and the waterproofing go in the way the system was designed, by the guy who was trained on it.
What that means for your jobServices
Showers, floors and leak repairs
That's the whole business. Lou quotes the job, and his crew is the one that shows up to do it.
We also do kitchen backsplashes.
Why Island Tile Craft
Why homeowners hire him
- 01
Lou's own crew
Louis Chirco walks the job and writes the estimate, and his own crew does the work. It isn't handed off. Need a plumber or electrician? We'll recommend licensed pros we've worked beside for years.
- 02
Bonded waterproofing
The pan gets a sloped mortar bed, then a bonded membrane over it, and every seam and corner is sealed. It gets flood tested before any tile goes down.
- 03
Old-school mud work
Floated mortar beds and mud-set pans, done by hand. Most installers never learned it.
- 04
You get a number, in writing
A written scope before anyone starts. If something changes once the walls are open, you hear about it that day, and you hear what it costs.
How we build
Built on Schluter systems.
Waterproofing, uncoupling and radiant heat out of one system, over a mud bed floated by hand.
KERDI
Bonded shower waterproofing
KERDI-BOARD
Waterproof walls, benches & niches
KERDI-DRAIN & KERDI-LINE
Drains that bond to the membrane
DITRA
Uncoupling under floor tile
DITRA-HEAT
Electric radiant floor heat
Profiles & trim
Finished edges and transitions
One bathroom, start to finish
How a shower goes together
Same job, in order. The old pan came out, the mud bed went in over the radiant tubing, KERDI went over the mud, and the marble went on last. These are Lou's photos from that bathroom.
01Tear it out
The old pan comes out down to the joists. Whatever failed gets found and fixed before anything new goes in.
02Float the mud bed
Packed mortar over wire lath, floated flat and sloped by hand, with the radiant tubing encapsulated in it.
03Bond the waterproofing
Schluter KERDI bonded to the mud bed, drains tied in, corners and seams sealed, then flood tested.
04Set the tile
Marble walls and a hex mosaic floor, set on a base that's dead flat, fully supported and completely waterproof.

Call and talk it through
Tell Lou the room, the rough size, and what you have in mind. Most of the time he can give you a ballpark right on the phone.
- 02
On-site measure & written estimate
We come out, check substrate and plumbing, review material options, and leave you with a written scope and price.
- 03
Build it right, clean up, walk through
Demo, prep, waterproofing, tile, grout, seal. Daily cleanup. A final walkthrough before we call it done.
For production builders
Certified tile across a whole subdivision, at a number that protects your margin.
If you're putting up 30 to 40 homes a year, tile is a line item that either runs on schedule or holds up your closings. Volume gets priced differently than one-off bathrooms. Same Schluter certified crew, same spec in every house, at builder pricing, on a schedule you can plan a subdivision around.
Pricing a community?
Call or text with the number of homes, the plans and your timeline, and we'll put builder pricing together.
